Welcome to Niragawa Elementary School!
Our school has history of 135 years.
The school has symbol of 3 camphor tree in the school ground.
These trees are more than 200 years old, and they watch students playing in the ground everyday.
Niragawa elementary school students are learning English with HRT (Homeroom teacher), two ALTs (Assistant Language Teacher) and 1 English supporter who is Japanese.
All students enjoy English class very much.
Year of 2010, we had English study class for six graders in October. (Class 6-2)
With that class, class 6-2 learned about asking "Directions" in English. The class made their own original map of school area and made 3D buildings.
On the day of study class, class 6-2 decided to make their real town with 3D buildings in the gym. (Examples are the train station, the cake shop, the meat shop, the chinese restaurant, etc….
First, students did pair work of asking the destination in the town.
One asked the direction with the sentence of "Where is the ----?", the other tell the directions with using such sentence as "Go straight, turn right, turn left, stop."
Students all did wonderful job with the pair work with using only English.
Next game was the Team activity. First pair will pick one direction paper from the box, and that paper is showing the destination only with arrows. → ↑ ← ↓
When students do not make any mistake with reading arrows and follow directions,
they will arrive at the correct destination.
All teams did great job with reading arrows to go to the destination.
Six grade students are learning a lot from English class every week.
Not only 6 graders but all grade students can actively greet to English teachers in the hallway "Hello!", "How are you?" and so on.
Staring from October 2010, the school started "English corner" buletin in connection passageway.
